Assam’s Waterways Transformed with Major Investments

Assam’s waterways sector has seen over ₹1,018 crore invested since 2021 by the Modi government. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced an additional ₹645 crore this fiscal for Brahmaputra (NW-2) and Barak (NW-16) development.

The Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route has boosted cargo movement, with over 216,000 MT transported via Dhubri. Plans include ₹320 crore for new terminals and facilities in 2024, enhancing trade and tourism. Assam’s waterways now play a pivotal role in connecting the region to global trade routes.
