Assault at Barpeta Road Rehab Centre Raises Safety and Legitimacy Concerns

A young patient at New Life Foundation rehabilitation centre in Barpeta Road reported being assaulted by staff, including the owner, Faridul Haque. The victim claims he was beaten with bamboo sticks and iron pipes by Haque and two workers, Kutubur and Sahadat.

This incident has not only highlighted the mistreatment of patients but also questioned the centre’s legal status, with allegations of it operating without proper documentation.

The victim has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police. Authorities are investigating both the assault and the facility’s compliance with legal requirements. This case has sparked calls for stricter regulation and oversight of rehabilitation centres to ensure patient safety and proper treatment.
