Bhutan Forced to Repair Dilapidated Samthaibari-Gelegphu Road in Assam

The Indian government has neglected the 45-km Samthaibari-Gelegphu road in Assam’s Chirang district, leading Bhutan to repair a 20-km stretch of the road. This road is vital for Bhutan’s southern town, Gelegphu, a key trade and tourist center. Despite the road’s importance, it has been in disrepair for years, causing significant delays and difficulties for travelers. Bhutan’s Export Association stepped in to repair the road, highlighting the Indian government’s failure to maintain this crucial international link. The Bishmuri-Sarpang road in Kokrajhar also remains in poor condition, despite repeated assurances for repairs.
