Bimol Akoijam Says Allegations Are Attempt to Silence Manipur’s Voice

Imphal: Lok Sabha MP and former JNU professor Dr Bimol Akoijam has alleged that the charges against him, his dismissal from JNU and the registration of an FIR are attempts to silence him for raising the grievances of the people of Manipur. After recording his statement at Vasant Kunj North Police Station in New Delhi, he returned to Imphal and appealed to the public to remain calm.

Akoijam said his lawyer was handling the sexual harassment allegation and described his personal difficulties as insignificant compared to the suffering of internally displaced people and families affected by the prolonged violence. He also criticised the government over its response to key issues, including the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, and vowed to fight the allegations until justice is delivered.
