BJP to Field 40 New Faces in Assam Polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP is confident in 103 constituencies and is likely to field around 40 new candidates. He added that seat-sharing talks are ongoing with the AGP, nearly finalised with the Rabha Joint Forum, and expected soon with the BPF.

Sarma said the state government has requested the Election Commission to hold polls before Bohag Bihu due to logistical and security concerns. Commenting on the Opposition, he claimed Congress risks losing the Leader of the Opposition post if minority-dominated seats go to alliance partners, as a party needs at least 22 seats to secure the position.
