Bodies of Six Victims from Manipur Violence Handed Over to Families
On Friday, the bodies of three women and three children killed in the violence-hit Jiribam district of Manipur were handed over to their families at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam, under heavy security. Assam and Manipur Police officials, including Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, oversaw the process, which followed a postmortem.
The victims’ families began their journey back to Jiribam after receiving the bodies. Family members expressed satisfaction with the government’s decision to involve the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the violence. In addition, three other bodies, including two burned victims and one from a police encounter, were also handed over.
Mourners gathered at SMCH to pay their respects as the coffins were transported to Jiribam, with people along the route also offering tributes.
