Brahmaputra Flow Not Dependent on China: Assam CM

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed Pakistan’s claims about a China-induced Brahmaputra threat, calling it a “manufactured narrative.” He said 65–70% of the river’s flow comes from rainfall in Northeast India, not from Tibet. Sarma added that Brahmaputra grows in India, and even reduced upstream flow wouldn’t harm but could ease Assam’s floods. He emphasized India’s sovereign water rights amid the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.
