Centre allocates additional ₹1,000 crore for Northeast highway projects

The Government of India has released an additional ₹1,000 crore to the National Highways Authority of India for national highway projects in the Northeast, raising the total allocation for FY 2025–26 to ₹7,224.09 crore.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued the order on March 23, earmarking the funds for capital expenditure on roads and bridges under key programmes, including the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for the Northeast.
The ministry clarified that the funds will be used only for highway projects officially assigned to NHAI, ensuring targeted infrastructure development.
The move underscores the Centre’s continued focus on improving connectivity and boosting economic growth in the strategically important Northeast region.
