Centre Plans ₹201.52-Crore Ropeway Project to Kamakhya Temple

The Government of India is set to develop a ₹201.52-crore ropeway connecting Kamakhya Railway Station to the revered Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. The project will be implemented under the Parvatmala Pariyojana, with National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) issuing a request for proposal on October 21 to select a private partner for its development, operation and maintenance under the public-private partnership model.
The ropeway aims to improve accessibility for the thousands of pilgrims visiting the temple, particularly during the annual Ambubachi Mela. The initiative comes alongside the ₹500-crore Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana, a major access corridor redevelopment project intended to upgrade infrastructure, improve amenities and accommodate the growing number of devotees.
