Centre Releases ₹256.6 Crore Finance Commission Grants for Assam Panchayats

The Union Government has released the second installment of XV Finance Commission grants worth ₹256.60 crore for Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural local bodies in Assam for the financial year 2025–26.

The funds will benefit 27 district panchayats, 182 block panchayats, and 2,192 gram panchayats, along with the Bodoland Territorial Council, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. An additional ₹42.70 crore from previously withheld grants has also been released to the three ADCs.

These untied grants allow local bodies to address local development needs, while tied grants focus on sanitation and drinking water projects.
