Charaideo Maidams Hold Vast Untapped Heritage, Says CM Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the Charaideo Maidams still contain significant unexplored archaeological and historical wealth despite receiving UNESCO World Heritage status. He noted that several burial mounds remain unexcavated and recovered artefacts lack scientific analysis. The government plans to set up a dedicated research centre for advanced studies, strengthen maintenance with additional workers, and promote community participation through homestays. Sarma also said tourism has surged after UNESCO recognition, with around 80,000 domestic and nearly 200 foreign visitors recorded.
