China’s Mega Dam Project Raises Concerns for Assam, Arunachal

China has begun building a 60,000 MW mega dam near the Brahmaputra’s great bend, sparking concerns for Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The project, expected to be completed by 2030, could cause floods or water shortages in India depending on how it’s managed. India’s proposed Upper Siang dam, intended as a protective cushion, remains stalled due to local opposition. Meanwhile, the Lower Subansiri project faces delays, now likely to be commissioned by December due to safety authority concerns.
