Chutiya Jati Yuva Sanmilan Protests for ST Status in Assam

Members of the Chutiya Jati Yuva Sanmilan (CJYSA) held a sit-in protest with tonsured heads at Chachal, demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for their community. CJYSA president Shyamaljyoti Bora accused the BJP-led government of deceiving them, similar to past Congress regimes. The group also called for the creation of a Chutia Autonomous Council. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister via the Kamrup (M) District Commissioner, urging action before the 2026 Assembly elections.
