CID Assam Arrests Five in Kamrup Cybercrime Crackdown

The CID’s Cyber Police Station in Assam arrested five individuals during raids in Kamrup district for their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities. The accused were reportedly handling about 200 SIM cards illegally and are suspected to be linked to an interstate cybercrime syndicate.

Police seized 1,000 unissued SIM cards, 54 bank passbooks, 10 blank cheque books, five debit cards and KYC documents of over 1,000 people during the operation.

Investigators said the group allegedly ran a handloom training centre as a front, collecting women applicants’ documents and using them to activate mule SIM cards and bank accounts for cyber fraud and SIMBOX operations. The investigation is ongoing to trace the wider network and victims.
