CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Urges Peaceful Protest Against Illegal Immigration and Encroachment in Upper Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Assamese community to raise its voice—peacefully and lawfully—against illegal immigration and encroachment, especially in culturally vital regions like Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Sivasagar.

During the Nijut Moina 2.0 form distribution event, he emphasized that community mobilization is essential but must stay within legal limits. His remarks follow recent actions by civil vigilante groups in Upper Assam targeting alleged illegal settlements.

Sarma warned of a specific “house-beef-mosque” pattern he believes is used to facilitate land grabs, citing Uriamghat in Golaghat as a key example of encroachment not linked to erosion.

He also cautioned against offering shelter to evicted settlers, stating it could reverse progress made through eviction drives.
