CM Sarma Blames Congress for Delay in ST Status for Six Assam Communities

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress party for delaying the grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities in the state. He claimed that an unnecessary clause introduced by the previous Congress government caused the delay. Sarma questioned why Congress added a requirement for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from existing tribal groups, complicating the process. This criticism comes after the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom (TAYPA) staged a protest demanding a separate Ahom land and ST status.
