CM Sarma Reaffirms Tough Stance on Encroachments, Eviction Drives to Continue

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reaffirmed the government’s firm stance on evicting encroachers from government land, including forests and VGR/PGR areas. While inspecting floods in Golaghat, he flagged possible encroachment in Uriamghat and raised concerns over daily migration from Nagaon district, warning of demographic changes. Sarma stated that eviction, by nature, is harsh and will proceed if notices are ignored. Recent drives in Dhubri and Goalpara aimed to clear land for APDCL and prevent human-elephant conflict, respectively. The CM emphasized that illegal settlers, including alleged Bangladeshi nationals, will be removed.
