CM Sarma to Visit Sonapur After Fatal Eviction Drive Clash

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit Sonapur’s Kosutoli today, two days after violence erupted during an eviction drive, resulting in two deaths and over 20 injuries. The Kamrup (Metro) District Police have registered cases against unidentified individuals involved in the violence.

Director General of Police GP Singh, who visited the site on Friday, suggested a possible “conspiracy” linked to unrest in neighboring Bangladesh. The area, declared a tribal belt in 1950, witnessed clashes when alleged illegal settlers armed with weapons confronted the police. The situation remains tense, with residents fearing further escalation.
