CM Sarma Urges Centre to Strengthen Chicken’s Neck Connectivity

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the Centre to develop underground and alternative road and rail networks around the Chicken’s Neck corridor, citing strategic concerns. His appeal follows Bangladesh’s interim chief Muhammed Yunus’ remarks calling India’s Northeast “landlocked” and positioning Bangladesh as its “guardian” for ocean access.

Sarma warned against geopolitical exploitation of the corridor, stressing the need for alternative routes, including through Bhutan. He emphasized that engineering challenges could be overcome with determination and innovation. His statement comes amid growing concerns over regional stability and sovereignty.
