Congress Gears Up to Challenge BJP in 2026 Assam Elections
The AICC has outlined a strategic roadmap to take on the BJP in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. At a high-level meeting led by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, Congress decided to adopt region-specific strategies, forming dedicated units for Barak Valley, SC, ST, and tea tribes.
The party plans to expose alleged corruption and political vendetta under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. District-level engagement will soon finalize election strategies. Speculation is rising over Gaurav Gogoi as a possible CM candidate, with Sarma recently targeting him.
Kharge urged party unity, stating that Assam’s 3.5 crore people look to Congress for change. Congress leaders have also accused Sarma of land grabbing and promised a targeted approach to reclaim power after a decade in opposition.
