Congress–JMM Discuss Strategy Ahead of Assam Assembly Elections

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) held discussions with leaders of the Jharkhand Congress to strengthen coordination ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. APCC president Gaurav Gogoi said the party is also seeking a courtesy meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, whose party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is reportedly exploring entry into Assam politics. Soren confirmed that talks with Gogoi focused on election strategies for Assam. Earlier, Soren attended a political meeting in Biswanath district organized by the Jai Bharat Party, which announced plans to form an alliance with JMM and contest around 40 of Assam’s 126 Assembly seats.
