Congress Leader Rakibul Hussain Attacked in Nagaon; Political Tensions Rise
Senior Congress leader and Dhubri MLA Rakibul Hussain was attacked by miscreants in Nagaon’s Rupahihaat on Thursday. Videos showed assailants chanting “Go back, Rakibul,” with one striking him with a cricket bat. His Personal Security Officer (PSO) was also injured, prompting security personnel to fire warning shots.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured security for Hussain during visits to Samaguri and Rupahihaat. Despite the attack, Hussain did not file an FIR and continued his public engagements.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) condemned the incident, accusing the BJP-led government of failing to ensure safety for elected representatives. Protests erupted at Rajiv Bhawan, with Congress workers demanding accountability.
