Congress Pauses Alliance Talks with Raijor Dal for 2026 Assam Polls

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday said the party has temporarily paused discussions with Raijor Dal over a proposed alliance for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.

He stated that despite several rounds of talks and a flexible approach on seat-sharing, both parties could not create a favourable environment for an alliance. Gogoi added that the decision was taken considering the practical aspect of winnability of seats, though discussions may resume later.

The development comes as opposition parties in Assam explore possibilities of forming a united front against the BJP-led ruling coalition in the upcoming elections.
