Congress Releases Second List of 23 Candidates for Assam Assembly Elections

The Indian National Congress on Saturday released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, taking the total number of announced nominees to 65 for the 126-seat Assembly.

Three sitting MLAs — Wazed Ali Choudhury, Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam and Rakibuddin Ahmed — have been renominated. Former MP Abdul Khaleque will contest from Mandia.

The party has also left 15 constituencies for alliance partners, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Assam Jatiya Parishad. Congress earlier released its first list of 42 candidates and has been out of power in Assam since 2016.
