Congress Slams Assam Evictions, Calls Them Communal and Politically Timed

The Congress on Monday accused the BJP-led Assam government of using eviction drives to polarise communities ahead of the 2026 polls. Senior leader Ripun Bora alleged the evictions target Muslims and are politically timed. He questioned the need for compensation if only illegal encroachers are affected. Citing Supreme Court guidelines, Bora said the evictions lack humanity and violate rights. He urged people to resist the government’s “divisive tactics” through the ballot.
