Constable Accused of Extortion Removed from Duty in Digboi

Constable Sukapha Chetia of Digboi police station was removed from duty on Sunday following accusations of extorting money from a vehicle transporting cattle. Chetia was caught by local residents while allegedly accepting a bribe, prompting Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gaurav to order an investigation. The incident occurred in the No. 1 Borbil area on the National Highway, where locals confronted the vehicle’s driver, who admitted to paying Chetia Rs. 400. While the constable denies the extortion claims, he has been reserve closed pending the investigation.
