Consultation Stresses Joint Action to Safeguard Girl Child

The Gauhati High Court’s Juvenile Justice Committee, in collaboration with Assam Child Protection Society and UNICEF, held a state-level consultation in Guwahati on Saturday on “Safeguarding the Girl Child: Towards a Safer and Enabling Environment.”

The event, inaugurated by Justice Kalyan Rai Surana, brought together voices from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, including adolescents sharing experiences of child marriage and violence. Discussions focused on inter-agency cooperation, judiciary and police roles, victim support services, and online child safety.

The consultation, part of preparations for the 11th Annual National Child Protection Stakeholders’ meet in October, concluded with a call for collective responsibility to protect girls from violence, trafficking, and exploitation. Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, DGP Harmeet Singh, and senior officials were also present.
