CPI(M) Demands NRC Finalization Before Voter Roll Revision in Assam

The CPI(M) Assam unit has urged the Centre and Election Commission to finalize the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before starting the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, warning that premature revision could exclude genuine citizens, especially minorities and marginalized groups.
The party accused the BJP-led governments of deliberately withholding NRC notification and rejection slips, preventing excluded people from proving citizenship. It also opposed the Assam Cabinet’s decision to halt Aadhaar enrolment for adults from October, calling it unjust and highlighting that Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship.
