Cultural Journalists’ Association Extends Support to Veteran Singer Joymati Hazarika

MIRZA: The Cultural Journalists’ Association, Assam, on Saturday visited veteran singer and Nagara Naam artiste Joymati Hazarika at Monpur near Mirza in South Kamrup and extended support amid her financial difficulties. Association organising secretary Hemanta Sarma and associate secretary Gopal Jalan provided essential food items, utensils, clothes and financial assistance to the veteran artiste.

The association also assured assistance in helping Hazarika obtain the necessary documents to access artist pension, Orunodoi and other government benefits. The members said they would approach the Department of Cultural Affairs to facilitate pension and other support, while urging society, cultural organisations and the media to ensure dignity, recognition and assistance for veteran artistes who have contributed significantly to Assam’s cultural heritage.
