Darrang Police Nab Notorious Poacher Near Orang National Park
In a decisive anti-poaching operation, Darrang police apprehended a notorious poacher near Orang National Park on Wednesday night. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by DSP Darrang Kunjalal Pator, along with Inspector Tanmoy Nath and Sub-Inspector Mahesh Prasad, set up an ambush at Thalthali village road near Eidgah.
The team successfully captured 39-year-old Mahidul Islam from Udalguri district and recovered a dismantled .303 rifle and an empty magazine wrapped in a plastic bag. The operation aimed at curbing rhino poaching also involved a circle officer and a Village Development Officer (VDO). A case has been registered under the Arms Act, and Islam has been remanded to judicial custody.
