Debabrata Saikia Criticises BJP for Weakening RTI on Its 20th Anniversary

On the 20th anniversary of the RTI Act, Assam Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia accused the BJP-led government of undermining the law through amendments and administrative lapses. He cited reduced powers of Information Commissioners, pending cases, and conflicts with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Saikia also called for proper implementation of the Whistleblower Protection Act and urged a fair probe into Zubeen Garg’s death.
