Demand for Permanent Gauhati High Court Bench in Barak Valley Intensifies

A committee in Barak Valley has submitted a memorandum to the Assam Chief Secretary seeking the establishment of a permanent bench of the Gauhati High Court in the region.

The committee said people from Barak Valley and nearby districts currently travel around 400 km to Guwahati for legal matters, causing financial hardship and delays. It also claimed that nearly 40% of the High Court’s cases come from the region.

Members argued that a local bench would improve access to justice and reduce the burden on litigants and the court system.
