Dhubri Court Sentences Man to 10 Years for Attempted Murder During Cattle Smuggling Incident

Mahadev Dutta was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge Paban Chandra Kalita of Dhubri for attempting to murder two locals during a cattle smuggling incident on September 18, 2015. Dutta attacked Chandan Ghosh and Raju Ghosh with a machete when they tried to stop him.

Reported by Tina Ghosh, Chandan’s wife, Dutta was arrested and found guilty under sections 324, 326, and 307 of the Indian Penal Code. He received concurrent sentences of two, seven, and ten years, respectively, along with fines totaling Rs. 16,000.

The verdict brought relief to the victim’s family, although Chandan Ghosh later died from his injuries on February 29, 2024.
