Dry Spell Slashes Assam Tea Output by 25%, Paddy Also Hit

A prolonged dry spell in Assam has cut tea production by 20–25% in June, with paddy crops also suffering. Veteran planter Prabhat Bezbaruah blamed climate change, high temperatures, and poor rainfall. He warned of pest infestations and nutrient stress in tea plants. Despite severe impact, tea growers lack government support. Premium tea quality has declined, though exports to Iran have resumed after brief disruption.
