E-rickshaw Driver Arrested for Attempted Rape in Chirang

An e-rickshaw driver, Muzaraf Ali, was arrested in Chirang’s Gossaigaon for allegedly attempting to rape a woman. Ali had gone to the victim’s house to deliver an LPG cylinder. Taking advantage of her being alone, he tried to assault her by gagging and inappropriately touching her. The woman’s screams alerted neighbors, who rescued her and caught Ali.

Police arrested the accused, and locals are demanding strict action. This incident follows a worrying rise in crimes against women in Assam, with 580 rape cases reported by July 2024.
