EC Orders Assam Officials to Remove ‘Non-Human’ Images from Voter List

Following reports of cats and dogs appearing in Bihar’s voter list, the Election Commission has directed Assam officials to identify and replace all ‘non-human’, ‘no image’, and improper photos in the electoral rolls. BLOs will conduct field verification and collect proper photographs using Form-8.

The EC also asked officials to fix duplicate entries, standardise addresses, and improve photo quality before the draft roll is published. Notional house numbers will continue only for polling station rationalisation.

Assam’s special revision of electoral rolls is underway, with the final list due on February 10, 2026. January 1, 2026, is the qualifying date for the revision.
