ECI Appoints Special Observer for Assam Polls; Single-Phase Voting Planned

The Election Commission has appointed retired IAS officer Manjeet Singh as Special Observer for the Assam Assembly elections on April 9. He will monitor poll preparedness and report to the Commission.

Authorities confirmed elections will be held in a single phase due to improved infrastructure and security. Over 74,000 police personnel and central forces will be deployed, with strict border checks and surveillance in place.

A social media monitoring cell has also been set up to curb fake news, as the state’s electorate stands at over 2.5 crore.
