Elderly Man Drowns in Floodwaters While Returning from Fishing in Golaghat

Golaghat: A 68-year-old man drowned after accidentally falling into floodwaters at Leblebi field in Badulipar under Dergaon Police Station on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Himadri (Himu) Bhattacharya, was returning after catching fish on a banana-stem raft when it reportedly drifted into a deep channel of the swollen Gelabil River, causing him to lose balance and fall into the water. Locals later recovered him, but he had already died. Bhattacharya was a daily-wage labourer and a resident of Badulipar Tea Garden Grant.
