Elephant and Calf Reunite After Three Days Amid Assam Floods

In Assam’s Sonitpur district, an elephant and her calf, separated while escaping the floods, were reunited after three days on Saturday. The pair entered a forest area in Tezpur on July 2, but got isolated, with the calf ending up in the backyard of Hemanta Keot in Bam Parbatia on July 3.

Concerned about the calf’s safety due to an old well in his backyard, Keot informed Saurav Borkakati, a former honorary wildlife warden. Borkakati guided the calf towards Devi Singh Ghat, a known habitat for wild elephants, hoping the mother elephant would find her calf there. The strategy worked, leading to a heartwarming reunion.
