Elephant shoot dead, for trunk and tail along Assam-Meghalaya border
Poachers shot an elephant dead at Belguri in the Rani area along the Assam-Meghalaya border and decamped with its trunk and muscles for meat.
The local people saw the carcass and informed the Forest personnel of the incident. Forest officials rushed to the spot today and found empty cartridges of 303 rifles. The forest officials suspect that the poachers might have come from the Meghalaya side a few days back, shot the elephant cow dead and decamped with its trunk, tail and muscles from the body. The elephant cow was around 15 years old.
