Erosion Near Dibrugarh Dyke Raises Flood Concerns

Dibrugarh: Severe riverbank erosion at Thakurbari in Maijan has brought the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) Dyke under threat, with the eroding stretch reportedly just around 10 metres from the vital embankment.
The erosion has continued for nearly a week, prompting concern among residents over a possible breach during the monsoon. Locals have urged authorities to take immediate protective measures.
The Water Resources Department has deployed geo-bags along the vulnerable stretch to slow the erosion. However, residents have expressed doubts over their effectiveness, citing similar measures used in the past.
The situation remains under close watch as continued erosion and strong river currents could further endanger the DTP Dyke and nearby areas.
