Fake Currency Suspect Shot During Escape Attempt in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A counterfeit currency suspect, Ajay Biswakarma, was shot in the leg by police early Saturday morning while attempting to escape custody. Biswakarma and his accomplice, Debojit Deori, were arrested on July 2 after Dispur Police intercepted their vehicle in the Six Mile area and seized fake ₹500 notes worth a face value of ₹2.56 lakh.

During interrogation, Biswakarma led officials to a suspected printing unit in Panjabari’s Kangkan Nagar. Upon arrival, he allegedly attacked a constable and tried to flee, prompting police to open fire. The injured suspect is currently undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
