Families Finally Accept Bodies of Three Hmar Youths Amidst Mourning

The families of three Hmar youths, killed on July 17 in Assam’s Cachar district, have finally accepted their bodies nearly a month after their deaths. The bodies were released under tight security following a Gauhati High Court order and transported to Hmarkhawlien village for funeral rites. The youths were accused of being militants, but their families and community members dispute this, alleging extrajudicial killings and calling for an independent investigation. The court has ordered the Assam government to submit a detailed report by August 30.
