Farmer Dies After Tiger Attack in Darrang District

Omar Ali (35), a farmer from Badali Borali village, succumbed to injuries on Sunday evening after being attacked by a Royal Bengal Tiger near Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR).

The tiger, straying out of ONPTR, injured Ali while he harvested paddy. Panic has spread in nearby areas along the Brahmaputra as the tiger roams freely, hiding in fields.

Forest and police officials are working to trap the tiger or drive it back to ONPTR. Forest Officer Pradipta Barua confirmed ₹4 lakh ex gratia relief for Ali’s family.
