Fire Service Official Nabbed for Bribery in Assam

Sub-Officer Basanta Sinha of the Dholai Fire and Emergency Service Station in Cachar district, Assam, was caught in a bribery scandal involving the issuance of a Fire Safety NOC. Sinha allegedly accepted a bribe offer of Rs. 25,000, prompting swift action from anti-corruption agencies. A well-coordinated operation near the Nagatilla Fire and Emergency Service Station in Silchar led to Sinha’s apprehension while accepting Rs. 8,000 from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses. The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sinha was arrested based on substantial evidence. This incident underscores the ongoing fight against corruption, particularly in public service sectors. Authorities emphasized their commitment to integrity and transparency, vowing to uphold fairness in government operations. Investigations are ongoing, with expectations of further evidence against Sinha leading to his swift prosecution.
