Five Arrested for Hunting Wild Birds in Kaziranga’s Biswanath District

Forest officials arrested five individuals for illegally hunting wild birds at Bholakhat Beel in the northern range of Kaziranga National Park. A joint operation by Biswanath Ghat Range and the Crime Investigation Range caught the suspects red-handed with nets set to trap birds.

The arrested men — Saiful Islam, Anowar Hussain, Tamsar Ali, Abul Hussain and Fukir Ali — confessed to consuming or selling the birds. Officials rescued a live Cotton Pygmy Goose, a rare Schedule I migratory species that arrives in Assam from Afghanistan. A net, mobile phones, a torch and bags were seized during the operation.
