Five Missing in Brahmaputra; NDRF–SDRF Launch Massive Search Operation

A large NDRF and SDRF search was conducted along the Brahmaputra near Kharguli after five members of a nine-person group went missing on Wednesday. Four survivors managed to escape, but Pratap, Sagar, Upesh Kumar, Abhijit and Raunak remain untraced.

Rescue teams reached within minutes of the first alert and recovered belongings of several individuals, but the lack of eyewitnesses hampered the operation. Survivors said a sudden drop in water depth and strong undercurrents caused the mishap.

Search teams scanned the river up to Umananda but found no one. The operation will continue on Thursday.
