Five Villages to Return to Meghalaya Under Upcoming Assam-Meghalaya Border MoU

Meghalaya will regain five villages in Ri-Bhoi district after signing a border MoU with Assam by August 15, said Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh. Despite ongoing tensions, talks are progressing. A joint visit to Langpih remains pending. Lyngdoh defended the state’s efforts, citing action against Assam encroachment. The states had earlier resolved disputes in six areas in 2022 and are now addressing six more in the second phase.
