Former AATSA President Dhiraj Gowala to Join BJP Ahead of 2026 Polls

Former AATSA president Dhiraj Gowala will join the BJP in Guwahati on Tuesday, ending months of speculation and energising the political landscape in Titabar before the 2026 Assembly elections. Considered a strong contender for the seat, Gowala said he chose the BJP due to benefits received by the Tea Tribe community under the current government.

He stated that Titabar remained backward under years of Congress rule and expressed his intent to contribute through the BJP. Over 500 supporters travelled with him to the state BJP office, signalling growing support. His induction is seen as a major boost for the BJP, which aims to make inroads in the Congress stronghold.
