Fresh Eviction Drive Planned in Garukhuti Project Area

The Darrang administration will conduct a fresh eviction drive on October 15 to clear 250 bighas of encroached government land at No. 3 Dhalpur village under the Garukhuti multipurpose agricultural project. Notices were served to 167 families earlier, but no claims were filed. Some residents have begun vacating the area. The project, supported by the Assam government, aims to promote agriculture and prevent encroachments. So far, over 8,000 bighas have been freed and 2,166 families relocated. Earlier evictions in 2021 had turned violent, resulting in two deaths.
